App Development

We design and build iOS and Android apps, along with the back end, admin portal and integrations that make them work, from the first clickable prototype to the app stores.

An app is more than its screens

SnappTrash wanted trash pickup that fits around the customer’s calendar. We built native iOS and Android apps for customers and drivers, a .NET and SQL back end, and an admin portal for payments, orders and driver coordination. The Colorado Springs soft launch passed 100 orders.

For cannfind, a cannabis wholesale marketplace, the app is a working tool: staff photograph and price products and move plants between rooms by scanning a QR code, with Metrc data behind it all. Most projects start with a prototype you can click through; our post on taking a prototype to production covers what comes next.

Where does your app start?

  1. With a prototype

Clickable screens designed in Figma or Adobe XD, so you can walk through the app, show it to people and change your mind before any code is written.

  2. With the system behind it

APIs, databases and admin portals that handle users, orders and payments. In projects like SnappTrash, the app is only one part of the system.

  3. With your own team

Not every app is for customers. Drivers, staff and field teams can get apps built around their jobs: route lists, scanning, photos and notes.

FAQ

App development questions, answered

Absolutely! At Zulu Shack, we offer comprehensive design services, including UX sketches and prototypes created with tools like Figma and XD.

We can work with your chosen designer or provide a complete branding guide to ensure your app has a cohesive and user-friendly design.

Once the prototype is approved, our skilled developers get to work. We align the prototype with the technical architecture, design a robust database, and build a secure API to ensure your app’s functionality is both seamless and secure.

We understand the importance of client involvement throughout the development process. We create a sandbox and dev version of your app, allowing you to stay informed and provide feedback. For Android, we use APK files, while for iOS, we utilize TestFlight for incremental testing and efficient feedback loops.

Sure! We not only develop your app but also offer guidance on the publishing process. We provide advice from a development perspective to ensure a smooth transition to the app stores and help you take the right steps to make your app successful.

App stores require a privacy policy and terms of use, and some industries have extra rules. We’ll point out what your app needs and build in the practical pieces, like consent screens, but your legal advisor should review the wording.

Quality is paramount to us. Most of our clients opt for a soft launch approach, where friends and family test the app extensively. We encourage user acceptance and testing to ensure the app meets user expectations and flows smoothly. We work closely with you until you’re satisfied with the app’s performance.

It depends on the platforms, the number of screens and user types, and what the system behind the app needs to do. We scope it with you and usually suggest a smaller first version, so you launch sooner and grow from real feedback.
